James Earnest Stough, 58, of Daphne, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. He was born in Birmingham and formerly a resident of Birmingham and Sylacauga.

He was a graduate of Sylacauga High School and Auburn University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in finance.

Stough was employed with the Alabama Power Company for 33 years until his retirement as a manager in the Treasury Department in 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe T. and Emma Laura Stough; his daughter, Laura Ruth Stough; and his brother, Steven S. Stough.

He is survived by three children, Emma Lisa Stough Sheffield (William) of Daphne, Matthew Wilson Stough of Jasper and Samuel Chase Stough of Birmingham; granddaughter, Laura McLendon Sheffield; one brother, Joe Stough (Kathy) of Jasper; and four nephews, Joe Stough III of Spanish Fort, John Stough and Josh Stough both of Jasper, and Steve Stough of Gadsden.

A celebration of his life will be held at his home at 23911 Weatherbee Park Drive in Daphne on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, from 2 until 6 p.m., casual attire.

Though the family welcomes flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Westwood Baptist Church, 1101 Snow Road, Mobile, AL 36695 or a citrus tree for the family to plant in his memory.
