Joe Thomas Spivy Sr., 78, of Jasper, formerly of Maury County, Tenn., went to walk the heavenly streets of gold Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at his residence. He was a gospel preacher for 57 years.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Curry Church Of Christ. A memorial service followed at 7 p.m. at the church. His sons and grandsons officiated the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar Spivy and Annie Ruth Bryant Spivy Wilcoxson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Eloise Crews Spivy; four children, Joe Thomas Spivy Jr. (Missy), Timothy Batsell Spivy Sr. (Penny), Joy Ann Spivy Shepherd (Chuck) and Stephen Oscar Spivy (Kim); 11 grandchildren, Leah Ashley Spivy Delbaugh (Corey), Joe Thomas Spivy III, Anna Carolyn Spivy, Timothy Batsell Spivy Jr. (Stasia Naomi), Tifani Spivy Elrod (Jake), Ryan Allan Nichols, Serrah Brooke Nichols, Andrew Charles Shepherd, Phillip Scott Shepherd, Holley Elizabeth Spivy and Hallie Grace Spivy; two great-grandchildren, Parker Carolyn Delbaugh and Ezra Scott Thomas Delbaugh; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends; and extended family members, Tommy and Brenda Holley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Dora Christian Home in Mount Dora, Fla., Childhaven in Cullman, Ala. or Heritage Christian University in Florence, Ala.
