Laura-Cornelius Appling Scott, 85, of Saraland, formerly of Jasper and born in Parrish on Sept. 21, 1928, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014.

She lived in Saraland, Ala., most of her adult life and what a life she led! She attended Livingston University, was a square dancer in her earlier years traveling and dancing all over the South. She was a volunteer at Springhill Hospital for 25 years and absolutely loved her volunteer work there. She began her volunteer work after discovering she had breast cancer in 1981 and promised God that if He would get her through it she would help others.

Scott was preceded in death by her father, Robert Franklin Cornelius and mother, Celia Laird Cornelius; her step-mother, Johnnie Gravlee Cornelius; and her sister, Peggy Jean Cornelius Thompson.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Clyde Scott of Saraland; her daughter, Celia Marie Appling of Saraland; brother, James Cornelius of Jasper; and nieces and nephews, Pam Thompson Price, Teresa Thompson Preston, Jim Cornelius, Dennis Appling, Ray Davidson, Ronald Harris and Regina Martinsin.

Though she will be missed here on earth, we know she is with her family again and is in no pain now. Mother, I hope you are driving wherever you want to go now and eating as many Butterfingers as you want and drinking Orange Crush!!
