The basic idea is to create a 5k run with the added challenge of obstacles and, of course, zombies.
“The zombies will chase you, and we’ll have fast zombies and slow zombies,” McMillian explained. “If a zombie catches you, you become a zombie too.”
The project is still in the beginning stages of planning but McMillian encourages anyone who is interested to find the page on Facebook by searching “Jasper Zombie Dash” or coming by his businesses, Bama Elite Fitness and Coffee Ninja. He hopes to hold the event around Halloween, giving everyone involved time to get the run organized.
“We’re looking for people to be zombies and people to run,” McMillian said. They will also need people to help build the course and do various other events in preparation for and during the event.
“We just want it to be safe and fun for everybody,” McMillian said.
Many runs get started as a fundraiser for a specific cause or organization, but this run doesn’t yet have a beneficiary, so organizers are still looking for a local nonprofit to benefit from the 5k. McMillian said that some of the members at his gym were sitting around talking one night and they decided to try to put this together. A similar event is held in Atlanta and other locations around the country.
“This would get people coming from Birmingham to Walker County instead of the other way around,” McMillian said.
