Lonie Marie Noland was born in Nauvoo on May 4, 1941, the daughter of Frederic Nolan and Velma Wright. Marie received a BS degree in education from the University of Western Illinois as well as an MS degree in early childhood education from the University of Central Florida. Marie was a successful elementary teacher in both Illinois and Florida, including receiving a ‘Teacher of the Year’ award prior to her retirement.

Marie was an active member in the Lions Club while living in both Florida and Illinois. She was a past president of this organization. She was also an active member in Moose International and taught for a short period of time at the Mooseheart located 40 miles west of Chicago. Marie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Carbon Hill. Locally she was a member of the Goldenrod Garden Club and a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. She was active with local quilting groups and had a goal to provide each of her grandchildren with a quilt. Unfortunately her medical problems prevented her from achieving this goal. Marie enjoyed traveling with Paul and they were able to visit 48 of the 52 states as well as Ireland, Canada and India prior to her disability.

Marie is survived by her current husband, Paul Goodridge; and his 10 children and 27 grandchildren from this marriage. She is also survived by her two sons, Dale and Lamar (Shelia) McGinnis, both residents of Jasper, along with their children, Destiny, Kristynna and Autumn. Marie also raised four step-children from a second marriage, Bill, Davis, Bryan and Kathy Otis. Marie is survived by six siblings, Ray, Jerry, Ricky, Mike, Tammy and Zachery Noland. Two siblings preceded her passing, Annette Boss and Jimmy Noland. Marie’s last surviving aunt is Alma Gresham of Jasper.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012.
