Funeral services for Lonnie Elbert Thweatt Sr., 79, of Greenville, Miss., will be at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 7, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church. He died on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Delta Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon today at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Browning Hillcrest Cemetery at Goodman, Miss.

Mr. Thweatt was born on Oct. 1, 1933, in Goodman, Miss., to Perry and IIa Mann Thweatt. He attended Holmes Jr. College and then served 10 years in the U.S.. Air Force. He drove for Trailways and Greyhound as a professional bus driver for 40 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Ila Thweatt; two brothers, Lenard and Robert Thweatt and his wife, Nell Thweatt. He is a former resident of Sumiton Alabama & Columbus, Miss. until he moved to Greenville to help his sister take care of his mother. He was a loving father and friend and dedicated to the Lord. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He ministered to many with his musical talents at nursing homes and churches in Mississippi and Arkansas.

He is survived by his son, Buddy Thweatt and his wife, Gail of Houston, Texas; five daughters, Debbie Ragon and her husband Jim of Columbus, Miss., Lillie Kelley and her husband, Steve of Columbus, Miss., Cindy Ashcraft of Longview, Texas, Vicki Maples and her husband, Randy of Starkville, Miss.; and his step-daughter, Darlene Creel and her husband Charlie of Sumiton; his sister, Joyce Thweatt Almond of Greenville, Miss.; his dear friend and music partner, Joy Tatum; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of very special friends. The Rev. Gregg Lassett will officiate the services.
