“I want to increase the Chamber membership,” McKinney said. “We haven’t had what I call a real membership drive in several years. … That is the primary thing I want to work on this year.
She hopes the membership will increase as the county grows and prospers, especially with the recent announcement of a coming retail development and four major stores and the announcement of a groundbreaking date for Cracker Barrel.
“It’s an exciting time for Walker County,” McKinney said. “Hopefully this will open the door for more businesses to come in.”
McKinney is the business office manager for Alabama Power’s Jasper office. She has been with the company for 31 years and moved to Jasper in 2006 from the Birmingham area. She said she originally got involved in the Chamber because community involvement was a portion of her job requirements, but she said she found a home. She is one of the team captains for Youth Leadership Walker County and was named the Chamber’s Volunteer of the Year a few years ago.
In addition to her activity in the Chamber, she serves on the President’s Board of the Walker Area Community Foundation and as President of the Board of the Walker County Community Action Agency. She has been the treasurer of the Rotary Club of Jasper for the last six years and volunteers at the Hope Clinic when she has time. She is also very active with United Way and serves as a member of the Visiting Allocations Team.
