On Nov. 2, 2013 Melva Nix Smith of Burnwell went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Melva was born on Jan. 15, 1948 to a large and loving family; a pastor's daughter, she sang for years with the ”Psalmsters“ Quartet, and later married Gene Smith. Together with husband they evangelized and pastored churches in Alabama and Georgia. Where they serve as pastors of Burnwell Bible Church of God. She was also an amazing cake maker, entrepreneur and, with her sisters, owned M&M Fabric and later M&M Catering.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Andrea Lynn Smith; her parents, Rev. H.R. Nix and Flossie Sargent Nix; brothers Algie Nix and Marvin Nix.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Rev. Gene Smith; daughter Melia Smith D'Amico and her husband Joseph of Vestavia Hills and granddaughter Faith Ann D'Amico; sisters Margaret Goodwin (Burnwell) and Martha Harbison Myers (Dora); brothers Wyman Nix (Cottondale), Jimmie D. Nix (Scottsboro); Thurman "Doodle" Nix, Clyde Nix and Dan Nix (Burnwell), and a multitude of family and friends.

Her Home going will be celebrated, and her life honored at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Burnwell Bible Church of God. She will lie in repose from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Interment will follow the services on Tuesday at Brasfield Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Nix, nephew and Rev. Randy Jackson. Bell Funeral Home Sumiton will be handling the services for the Smith Family
