An Oakman man died in a single-vehicle traffic accident at approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday morning. Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said he pronounced James Dennis McLemore, 52, dead on the scene, which was on Cedar Lake Road, approximately eight miles south of Parrish.

State Troopers said the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado McLemore was driving left the roadway and struck several trees before overturning.

The wrecked vehicle was not easily visible from the road, but a passerby noticed fresh skid marks leading off the road and called it in to authorities.

Poe said that McLemore died instantly. Foul play is not suspected, and no autopsy has been ordered.

Alabama State Troopers, who are investigating the accident, said speed was a factor in the accident.

Accident victim airlifted to UAB

A second accident occurred in Jasper Monday morning at approximately 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of 17th Street and Alabama Avenue.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident and one female, approximately 90 years old, was airlifted to UAB because of severe facial injuries.

No names were available at press time and no information was released on anyone else involved in the accident.
