The Wildcats’ defense would hold the Blue Devils to 182 total yards on the night, while keeping the Sulligent offense off balance with 9 team tackles for a loss. Reilly Williams led the team with 8 tackles including one tackle for a loss, with Jody Green contributing with 7 tackles with one tackle for a loss.
Jase Trotter led the Oakman offense, connecting on 10 of 18 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. His top target was Elijah Farley with 3 catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Chris Austen led the Wildcat rushing attack with 8 rushes for 78 yards and a touchdown.
Oakman put the first points of the game on the scoreboard in the final moments of the first quarter with a 6-play, 60-yard drive, capped off by a 31-yard touchdown strike from Trotter to Deontre Muse. Matthew Wilson’s extra point kick was successful, giving the Wildcats the 7-0 lead.
After the Oakman defense held Sulligent on downs to begin the second quarter, Quinton Harris dropped back to pass and hit Farley for a 44-yard strike to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 13-0 following the missed extra point try.
Sulligent added a score prior to halftime on a 15-yard pass; however Oakman’s Don Tyler Jackson would block the extra point kick to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 13-6.
Oakman’s final score of the game came on the first play of the second half, with Austen taking the ball into the endzone on a 42-yard run to end a 6-play, 70-yard drive. Trotter scramble for the successful two-point conversion to put the Wildcats further ahead, 21-6.
Sulligent would add a score late in the fourth quarter on a 6-yard pass to reach the 21-13 final.
Following an Aliceville loss to Lamar County on Friday night, Oakman took the top spot in the Region 4 standing with a perfect 4-0 record. The Wildcats host Hale County (3-3, 3-1) next Friday night in a contest that could be crucial in helping the region’s playoff picture.
