Saturday’s event at CrossFit Jasper honoring U.S. Air Force combat controller Mark Forester was special in that it not only raised funds for the Mark Forester Foundation, but it also honored a military hero.

Forester,, who was from Haleyville in Winston County, served his country proudly, and gave his life while doing so. He died while trying to save the lives of so many of his fellow soldiers.

In Walker County, three young men also made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country. Richard Gilmore, Sean McCune and Charles ‘Dusty’ Parrish each proudly served in the military and each lost their life in military combat.

Our hope is that we never forget Mark, Richard, Sean and Dusty, or the countless others who made the ultimate sacrifice. We need to always remember that they gave their lives defending ours.
