Mayor Sonny Posey recently accepted a $10,000 check from members of Pilot Club of Jasper for the city’s Miracle Field.

@:The funds, which came from proceeds from the Club’s annual Tour of Homes as well as a grant from Pilot International, will be used to purchase bleachers for the field that will accommodate individuals with special needs.

“We are most appreciative of the Pilot Club’s efforts. They are always interested in doing things to benefit the city and our citizens,” Posey said.

Club member Louise Dover said the group donated the proceeds from Tour of Homes that were held in 2009, 2010 and 2011 to the Miracle Field and also applied for a matching grant through Pilot International.

Dover said that in the past, the Club has received several grants for projects such as a medical alert system, accessible playground equipment and the local therapeutic riding program Equines Assisting Special Individuals.

She added that the $5,000 for the Miracle Field is the most that the Club has ever been awarded at one time.

Posey said city officials have designated $350,000 for the project and hope to raise an additional $300,000 to finish all of its phases.

The Miracle Field is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
