I love this time of year. Brisk, cool mornings lead to high-stakes football on every level and announce nature’s colorful fall-foliage masterpiece.

We at your Daily Mountain Eagle are experiencing some change, also. You may have noticed our new parking lot void of dangerous potholes. And for the next several weeks interior and exterior renovations will be our focus.

Jeremy Camp and his crew from Camp’s Painting are giving our interior office walls new life with much-needed coats of paint. The old curtains are gone, making room for new vertical blinds by Renee’s Blinds & Shutters.

The interior renovation work will end with new flooring by the end of November.

In addition to our new parking lot, exterior work will include new landscaping timbers and mulch. New awnings will welcome our customers to a dry entryway and provide our carriers some shelter at our loading dock.

And if anyone out there knows someone that can repair a flagpole, I would love to cap our renovations off with a new American Flag and, of course, a spotlight so we can show our patriotism around the clock.

These capital improvements come in the wake of a complete hardware and software upgrade earlier this year.

These investments are needed to provide a professional workspace for the employees of your Daily Mountain Eagle and, as important, to project that professionalism to our readership family and business community.

In a time when many are preaching the demise of the newspaper industry, your family, friends and neighbors employed at your local newspaper have a home. Your Daily Mountain Eagle has been here for 140 years and we plan on providing our piece of Americana with a great community newspaper for years to come.

We will host an open house during the Holiday season when the projects are complete. In the meantime, please excuse our temporary mess and inconvenience.
