Prep Baseball: Walker shuts out Curry for area win

Walker had nine hits — including four for extra bases — as the Vikings knocked off Curry 10-0 in five innings Tuesday at Valley Park.

Walker jumped on the Yellow Jackets early and pulled away for its first area win of the season.

Bryant Atkins limited Curry to two hits and a walk while striking out four batters in five innings to earn the win.

For Walker, Bailey Tidwell was 2 for 3 with a double a run and two RBIs to lead a balanced attack.

Logan Nix went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Nick Hicks was 1 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Brooks Wade was 1 for 3 with a double a run and two RBIs, CJ Robinson was 1 for 1 with a triple and an RBI, Stone Stephenson was 1 for 2 with two runs and Atkins was 1 for 2 with a run.

For Curry, Colton Barton and Jaxon Aaron each finished 1 for 2.

Walker (10-17 overall, 1-2 in Class 5A, Area 12) finished 1-3 over spring break, losing to Mountain Brook, Clay-Chalkville and Decatur while defeating Athens.

The Vikings travel to Curry for a double-header set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday.


Oakman 12, Sulligent 2

The No. 6-ranked  Oakman Wildcats notched their 20th win following a 12-2 home victory over the Sulligent Blue Devils on Tuesday at Oakman.

Brayden Hall got the win for Oakman, giving up two runs, four hits while striking out five batters in five innings of play.

Offensively, Brennan Hall went a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBIs and recorded a three-run home run. Jase Trotter, Hall, Landon Minor and Matt Wilson all had hits in the contest.

The Wildcats (20-5) host the Lamar County Bulldogs in the Class 2A, Area 11 Championship on Monday.


Sumiton Christian 16, Parrish 1

Sumiton Christian broke open a close game with a pair of seven-run innings to beat the Tornadoes 16-1 at Blair Field on Tuesday.

The Eagles (8-7, 4-1) took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning before exploding for seven runs for a 9-1 lead. They added seven more in the fifth.

Evan Love (4-1) got the win on the mound. He allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out five.

At the plate, Tristan Alexander was 3 for 4 with three runs, Austin Bice was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, Spencer Black was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs and Nic Collins was 2 for 4 with a double and a run.

Sumiton Christian plays at Parrish at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
