A raised bed garden project that began in January was completed Thursday at one of the Arc’s residential group homes.
Volunteers from the Alabama Power Service Organization-Miller chapter assisted Arc clients and staff with painting and planting the raised beds that were established on the MLK Day of Service.
Tomatoes, peppers, okra, squash and cucumbers are among the vegetables that will be available for use this summer in the Arc’s day program.
Nutritious meal planning and food preparation for daily living will be emphasized. Clients in the group home will also be able to incorporate the produce into their meal preparation.
The project is funded by a grant from the Walker Area Community Foundation. Volunteers were coordinated by Hands On Birmingham.
