Mobile Christian moves on to face Washington County in the third round.
All of Rogers’ scores came in the opening half. He opened the scoring with a 10-yard score less than two minutes into the game, scored on a 62-yard run early in the second quarter and added a 43-yard run with 4:44 left in the opening half.
With Mobile Christian (9-3) leading 6-0, Oakman got on the board with a Jase Trotter 2-yard run with 7:21 left in the opening quarter to take a 7-6 lead after Matthew Wilson’s extra point. After Rogers’ second score put the lead to 14-7, Oakman tied the game after a Chris Austin 16-yard touchdown run.
The Leopards struck on their next possession, scoring on Rogers’ last touchdown. Hunter Avery’s PAT a gave Mobile Christian (9-3) a 21-13 halftime lead.
Mobile Christian’s second-half touchdown came on Aaron Thompson’s 50-yard fumble recovery with 8:49 left in the third quarter for a 28-13 lead. Oakman kept things close with an Austin 1-yard run with 3:24 left in the quarter.
Oakman, which made a 240-mile trip to Mobile Christian for the game, was held scoreless in the fourth quarter, ending the Wildcats’ season with a 10-2 record.
Mobile Christian gained 259 yards on 42 rushes and passed for another 70 yards. Oakman finished with 228 total yards, including 175 rushing yards.
Austin gained 110 yards and had two touchdowns to lead Oakman. Trotter finished 13 of 28 passing for 125 yards. He also rushed for 85 yards and a score. Quinton Harris had 62 receiving yards.
Don Tyler Jackson had 11 tackles, Reilly Williams and Caleb Woods each had seven tackles and Zack Fondren had six tackles.
Oakman is 18-6 under coach Mark Hastings over the last two seasons, losing in the second round of the playoffs both years.
