Smothers was a good man and a loving husband. He enjoyed yard sales and flea markets. He served in the U.S. Army.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Rev. Joseph Knott officiated. Collins-Burke Funeral Home directed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Palmer and Evelyn Nix Smothers; and brothers, J.E. Smothers and Bobby Ray Smothers.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Doris Rhea Smothers; daughter, Cynthia Smothers Thomas; stepdaughters, Tammy Smothers Masters and Kathy Smothers Peavy; son, Jeffrey Lynn Smothers; and grandchildren, Brad Drinkard and Sarah Masters.
