Sumiton Christian, Cordova baseball teams pick up wins

The Sumiton Christian Eagles earned a key win on Tuesday, knocking off the previously unbeaten and 10th-ranked Shades Mountain Christian Eagles 7-4, in Hoover.

Tristan Weldon picked up the win for Sumiton Christian, pitching four and 1/3 innings, surrendering five hits, three walks and two earned runs, while striking out one batter.

Tristan Alexander and Micah Abbott pitched in relief, with Abbott recording a strikeout.

At the plate, Spencer Black went 2 for 4 with a single and a double, while Austin Bice recorded a double.

Sumiton Christian (7-3) travels to Oak Grove on Thursday.


Cordova 6, Dora 4

Cordova scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Dora 6-4 on the road Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils battled back from a late 4-2 deficit to tie the game in the top of the seventh before winning the game in the ninth.

Cordova (11-4) got a dominant pitching performance from Stephen Kilpatrick who pitched the final three innings of relief, striking out all nine batters he faced. He earned the win.

Kilpatrick also had three hits and a pair of RBIs at the plate. Jeffre Wingo added a pair of RBIs for the Blue Devils. Chase Trotter, Zac Guerra and Hunter Gilmore each had doubles for Cordova while both Andrew Minor and Wingo had triples. Minor added an RBI.

For Dora, Zac Roberts led the team at the plate with a double and two RBIs.

Cordova won the JV game 11-1 in five innings with Clark Chance recording three hits and Logan Shumate driving in three runs for the Devils.

Cordova’s hosts Vinemont on Friday.
