Assistant Police Chief Matt Dozier said the Carbon Hill Chevron on Nauvoo Road, just off Interstate-22, was the target of a robbery around 3 a.m. Friday.
The suspect, a white male, around 6-feet tall and 250 pounds with dark hair, entered the store and purchased sodas, Dozier said. After making his purchase, he demanded money from the clerk. When the clerk didn’t cooperate, the suspect attacked him.
“It was a very violent robbery,” Dozier said. “He was even choking the clerk at one point.”
While police are unsure if the suspect was armed, Dozier said he kept his hands in his pockets to give the appearance that he had a gun.
“He’s dangerous, that is for sure,” Dozier said.
The suspect was driving a white, four-door sedan. A female was in the car. Dozier said she remained in the vehicle throughout the incident. The car left in the direction of I-22.
“We belive they got on I-22,” Dozier said. “The car had a Lauderdale County license plate.”
Carbon Hill police released two photographs, one of the suspect and one of the car, to the Daily Mountain Eagle. Anyone with information about the incident are encouraged to call the Carbon Hill Police Department at 205-924-4411.
