Carbon Hill Police recently arrested two people on charges of narcotics possession and property theft.

Police Chief Heath Allred said Sgt. Josh McGuire responded to a report of a burglary early Monday morning at E & T’s Quick Stop. He said McGuire found 42-year-old Keith Manasco and 32-year-old Brandi Ryan stuffing a Daily Mountain Eagle newspaper vendor (often called a rack) into the trunk of a Ford Taurus.

“We ascertained pretty quick that they were not employees of the Daily Mountain Eagle,” Allred said.

Upon further search of the vehicle, McGuire found a bag of prescription narcotics on the floorboard.

Allred said Manasco, of Jasper, and Ryan, of Carbon Hill, were arrested without incident. Both of them were charged with unlawful possession of prescription medications and third-degree theft of property.

Allred said he appreciates the citizen who called and reported the crime.

Daily Mountain Eagle Circulation Manager J.H. Boshell said he is thankful for the quick action of the Carbon Hill Police Department and stressed that he will press full charges related to any theft of the racks.

Boshell also said the racks are emptied of all change daily.

“Should they steal a vendor, which is $400, they might get $5 in change out of it,” he said.
