Blue Devils quarterback Ryan Sullivan had an outstanding night, amassing 187 yards and a touchdown through the air, with an additional 180 yards and three scores rushing.
All together, the Eagles gave up 330 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Sumiton Christian only gained 137 yards of total offense.
After a slow start for both teams, Sullivan ran in from 48 yards out to put the Devils on the board. The extra point was blocked by Camron Mercer. Three possessions later, Sumiton Christian’s Bradley Seale recovered Sullivan’s fumble, giving the Eagles the ball in Blue Devil territory. They were unable to capitalize on the turnover, however, going three-and-out.
The next drive saw Sullivan complete five consecutive passes, followed by an 8-yard touchdown run by Daniel Woodall. The 2-point conversion made it 14-0.
With all zeroes on the clock, Sullivan hit Woodall for a 40-yard catch and run touchdown. The kick went wide right leaving the halftime score at 20-0.
Falkville scored on three consecutive drives to start the second half, including a 1-yard run by James Johnson and two rushing scores by Sullivan to bring the score to 40-0.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Eagles recovered another Devil fumble. After marching down the field, Josh Yates’ 4th-and-goal pass to James Woodall came up short, ending the Eagles’ hopes of preventing the shut-out.
Sumiton Christian (2-3, 2-2) is off next week before travelling to No. 4 Addison on Oct. 11.
