Walker got top-notch performances across the board Monday night, sweeping a pair of matches from tough competition at Songer Gym.

The Vikings earned a 25-14, 25-23 victory over Muscle Shoals before knocking off Spain Park 25-23, 25-11.

Anna Claire Harris was part of the charge. On the day, she recorded eight kills, 11 blocks and 16 digs. She had eight blocks in the Muscle Shoals match alone.

Also for Walker, JoLee Dobbs registered 42 assists, Sidney Cooper had 24 kills and 23 digs, Miranda Bruce added 13 kills, four blocks and three digs and Jessica Woodley contributed in three categories, recording 11 digs, four kills, six assists and three blocks.

Madisyn Hood added 21 digs and a pair of aces, Molly Rowe had six kills and eight blocks and Carley Taylor had 14 digs for the Vikings.

Walker improved to 18-10 on the season. The Vikings head to Lawrence County on Thursday with the tri-match against the Red Devils as well as East Limestone.



Curry continues to cruise

The fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets continued their winning ways on  Monday, beating both Danville and Winston County to improve to 27-5 on the season.

In the opening match, a 25-19, 25-23 win over Danville, Jessie Bagwell had 17 assists and two digs, Bretta Lane had five kills and an assist, Chloe Bennett had eight kills, two blocks and a dig, Holli McGinnis added three digs and two aces, Gabby Englebert had four digs and a pair of blocks, Jordan McPherson had five digs, two aces and an assist, Kendall Chance contributed had seven digs and an ace while Payton Norris added 12 digs and an ace.

Curry, which won the Walker County Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, followed with an impressive 25-19, 25-8 win over Winston County.

In the match, Bagwell had 22 assists, Josie Walker added three kills, Lane had six kills and two blocks, Bennett had 10 kills and two blocks, McGinnis had seven digs, one kill and one ace, Englebert had two kills, four blocks and one assist, McPherson had four digs, four aces and one assist, Chance had eight digs and an ace while Norris added five digs and three assists.

Curry plays at Hartselle at 5:30 p.m. today.



Oakman tops Oak Grove

Oakman picked up a win at Oak Grove on Monday, beating the Class 4A Tigers 25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 25-9.

The Wildcats bounced back from an 0-2 showing at the Walker County Tournament on Saturday with Monday’s victory to improve to 9-12 on the season.

For Oakman, Caroline Thompson had nine aces and five kills, Mallory Nunnelley had five aces and seven digs, Lindsey Harbison added seven aces, two kills and four digs while Jordan Harbinson had 11 assists, five digs, three aces and two kills.

Also for the Wildcats, Khaley Smith had three digs, two kills and an ace, Brianna Aldridge added six blocks and a kill and Hannah Bonner had four digs, three aces and a kill.

Oakman has three seniors on this year’s squad: Bonner, Lindsey Harbinson and Taylor Pendley.

The Wildcats host a tri-match today beginning at 3:45 p.m. Oakman takes on Parrish in the opening match, Parrish faces Meek in the second match and Oakman closes out the night against Meek.



Walker JV team splits matches

Walker’s JV team split its matches on Monday, beating Muscle Shoals 25-17, 25-17 in the opener.

Lauren Stewart had 19 digs for the Vikings (10-15) while Jaline Finch had six digs, Azha Allen had six digs and three aces, Riley Speegle had 16 assists, five digs and three aces, Bonnie Sanders had 20 digs, four kills and four aces and Maegen Tubbs added five kills, three blocks, three digs and an ace.

Walker followed with a 25-19, 25-23 loss to Spain Park. Stewart had 18 digs in the match, Allen added six digs, Speegle had 14 assists, three digs and an ace, Sanders had 17 digs, two aces and a kill while Tubbs had seven kills, seven digs and two blocks.



Cordova JV team gets 20th win

Cordova’s JV team notched its 20th win of the season on Monday, beating Carbon Hill 25-23, 25-19.

The Blue Devils (20-5) were led by Danielle Honeycutt, who had 11 digs, four kills and two aces, Alexis Cooper had six digs, four assists, two kills and four aces, Charity Bradford added 10 digs and one kill and one ace for the Blue Devils, Kennedy Stracner had three digs and six assists, Savannah Madison added three digs and five kills, Randi Capps had five digs and four kills with three aces and Kara Hall added three kills.
