William Franklin “Billy” Wright, 70, of Carbon Hill, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at his residence.

Visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the parlor at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel with burial in the Carbon Hill Memorial Cemetery in Carbon Hill. Tyler Keene and Tony German will officiate.

William Franklin “Billy” Wright and Nelda “Cricket” Wright were married for 53 years. Billy was Carbon Hill Chief of Police for 13 years before retiring, was a current member of the Carbon Hill City Council and Utility Board, and had established businesses in Jefferson and Walker counties and in Carbon Hill with his grandson, Jeff Stough. Paw’s hobbies were fishing with his two-sons, watching NASCAR, working in the shop with their boats, and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Joseph Wright; mother, Christine Russo Wright; and daughter, Penny Lee Wright.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nelda “Cricket” Wright of Carbon Hill; daughter, Sandra Garrison (Pat); sons, Billy Joe Wright (Twyla) and Scott Wright (Tabitha); grandchildren, Jeff Stough, Brad Wright, Brandy Sibley, Summer Wright, McKenna Wright (Paw’s Baby), and Clay Wright; step-grandchildren, Tyler Keene (Mandy), Courtney Bryan (Clay) and Adalyn Bryan; sister-in-law, Fuzz McCarely (Glen); brothers-in-law, Harold Tidwell and Ray Tidwell (Dorene); and a host of friends.

Pallbearers will be Joey Vick, Darrell Mote, John Polly, Larry Swindle, Phillip Howard, Jim Handley, Luke Wright, and Kenneth Blankensopp.
