Winston County volleyball team sweeps Carbon Hill

CARBON HILL — Eighth-ranked Winston County found itself locked in a battle with Carbon Hill in the opening set of their match Monday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs battled their way from behind to notch the score at 24 apiece.

After that, it was all Winston County.

The Lady Yellow Jackets won the final two points of the first set and cruised to a 26-24, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Carbon Hill.

Winston County (12-7) was led by Savanna Tidwell with 14 kills, 20 digs, seven blocks and four assists, Kay Kay Bullock had 12 digs, six blocks, five kills and two assists, Brook Garrison had 42 digs while Marnae Keeton added 15 digs and two assists.

Alex Glenn had 64 assists, nine digs and a pair of blocks, Abby McCullar had 10 digs and two assists, Ashlyn Steele had six kills, seven digs and two blocks, Madison Williams had six kills and six digs and Kenzie Bullock had four digs, four assists and four blocks.

For the Lady Bulldogs, Maggi Clark had 10 kills, four digs and three aces, Meagan Bice had eight kills, eight digs and two aces while Savanna Lawson added four kills and five blocks.

Kendall Norris had 15 digs and two aces, Emily Posten had 15 assists and three digs, Jessica Hurst had 10 assists and three digs while Kayla Blankensopp added four kills and four digs.

Winston County plays at Addison at 4:30 p.m. today and hosts a tri-match with Walker and Winfield on Thursday.

Carbon Hill (8-4) plays an area tri-match at Dora beginning at 4 p.m. today.

Oakman wins pair

Oakman picked up a pair of wins in a tri-match at home Monday. The Lady Cats opened with a 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-8 win over Sulligent.

Against the Lady Blue Devils, Caroline Thompson had seven aces, six kills and five digs. Hannah Bonner added fives aces, two kills and a dig while Jordan Harbison had eight kills and an ace.

The Lady Wildcats defeated Lamar County 30-28, 25-19, 25-11. Bonner had four aces and a pair of kills, Brianna Aldridge added three kills and a block and Mallory Nunnelley had five digs and an ace.

Oakman hosts Cold Springs at 4:30 p.m. today.

Dora tops Leeds

in four sets

Dora got off to a slow start, but finished strong, beating Leeds in four sets at Dora High School on Monday.

The Lady Bulldogs (10-11) won 12-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.

Alexia Smith led Dora with eight kills, four blocks and three aces, both Madisen Bencko and Jill Turman had five kills, Lydia Sanders added 13 digs, Shelicia Meadows had 12 digs and three aces, Carrie Weldon had 12 digs and Hannah Wilson contributed 17 assists.

Dora plays an area tri-match vs. Carbon Hill and Oak Grove beginning at 4 p.m. today.

Dora’s JV team won a 25-23, 26-28, 16-14 match over Leeds. For Dora (2-3), Keola James had six kills, Emily Owens added four kills, Shelby Watkins had nine assists and four aces, Kaneshia Chapel added 15 digs and Lexi McLeroy had five aces.
