A 28-year-old Jasper woman is in the city’s jail after being arrested in connection with a stabbing that took place Friday night.

Tashauna Housey is being charged with second-degree assault for her role in a fight that took place outside Jasper’s Peetree Apartments around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Jasper Police Capt. Larry Cantrell called the incident a “lovers’ quarrel.” According to a Jasper Police Department report, the victim in the incident, a female, was dating Housey’s former girlfriend. Cantrell said the suspect and the victim reportedly got into a verbal altercation before going to the parking lot of the apartments to fight.

According to the police report, when officers arrived at the scene, the suspect and the victim were not there. Wittnesses reported the victim had gone to Walker Baptist Medical Center and Housey had fled to another location near R.J.’s Convenience Store on Highway 69.

Officers retrieved the knife, which was in the parking lot, covered in blood.

The victim was treated and released at the hospital, while the suspect was taken into custody and is still being held in the Jasper City Jail. Cantrell said Housey admitted to pulling a knife and stabbing the victim in the shoulder and the back.
