One local woman was killed and another was critically injured in an incident that occurred Thursday night on Industrial Boulevard.

Yasheia Davis Dixon, 27, of Sipsey, died after being struck by a vehicle around 10:30 p.m.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said Dixon died on scene and the other victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to UAB Hospital.

Initial reports suggest that the two women were pushing their vehicle in the roadway at the time of the incident.

“Officers on the scene reported that from the resting position of the vehicles, it appeared that this accident happened on the roadway and not on the shoulder of the road. However, that is yet to be determined,” Jasper Police Chief Connie Rowe said.

Rowe added that it also appeared to officers that none of the parties involved were under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident.

“A thorough investigation of this very serious and tragic event is underway,” Rowe said.

No charges have been filed.
