Leaders with area churches and youth are organizing a youth rally to take place on Aug. 11 at Dora High School’s football field.

The nondenominational youth rally, called Fusion 2012, is aimed at getting pre-teen and teenage students together and helping them realize that they are not alone in their faith before school begins again this fall.

“They think there isn’t enough of them to do anything,” one of the event organizers, Stormie Dill, said. “And they aren’t confident enough to be stepping out in their faith.”

The event will focus on teaching the students how they can make a difference and that they have the right to pray in school.

“There are so many ways kids can have prayer in schools, they just don’t know it,” Dill said.

Church groups or individuals are welcome at the free program, which organizers think will draw as many as 3,000 attendees.

“We just want kids from everywhere,” Dill said. “Our focus is really on teenagers, but anyone is welcome.”

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with performances from area drama teams. Anyone with a team who is interested in performing should contact Dill so they can keep count and schedule.

The main event will start at 7 p.m. and will feature Chosen, a band from Karen Wheaton’s Ministries and The Ramp, her church in Hamilton. The program will also feature a speaker from The Ramp, Brian Beasley.

Dora High School’s Booster Club will open the concession stand and door prizes will be given away.
