Jasper police, armed with a search warrant, arrested three people — including a juvenile — at a home on Alabama Avenue.

The arrests, which happened on Dec. 15, began with arrest warrants being issued for 20-year-old Key-Eric Gilbert, who was wanted for possessing an illegal weapon, and an unidentified juvenile.

Once police were inside the home on Alabama Avenue, they noticed illegal drugs lying in plain sight and secured a search warrant for the property.

“Once we saw the drugs laying there, we backed off and got a search warrant,” Police Chief J.C. Poe said.

Jasper investigators and narcotics agents, along with the department’s tactical team, found marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the home.

They took into custody Petra D. Colbert, 39, of Jasper, and charged her with possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gilbert was taken into custody related to an illegal weapon he had tried to pawn at a local business. He was charged with being a person forbidden to possess a firearm and was being held on a probation violation related to a charge in Jefferson County.

“He had tried to pawn an assault-type weapon with a bump stock on it,” Poe said. “That’s the type weapon used in the Las Vegas shooting.”

Police recovered the assault rifle, along with two handguns inside the home.

Also arrested was a juvenile. His name was not released because of his age.

Poe said police held warrants on the juvenile for unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.

“Both Gilbert and the juvenile are people that we’ve had to deal with quite a bit,” Poe said. “Hopefully, this will give us some relief for a while.”
