May 6, 1932 November 21, 2017Mrs. Betty Jane Wilder Myers, 85, of Excel, formerly of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Myers was lovingly known as “Granny” to many in Monroe County and most knew her as “Big Mama” in the Jasper area. Mrs. Myers was born in West Virginia, lived in Jasper, Ala. for many years and had moved to Monroe County in 1998. She worked with Son’s Supermarket in Jasper, Alabama from 1974 to 1998. She was presently employed with City Limits Package Store in Monroeville. Mrs. Myers was a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Wildfork.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Doc and Fannie Watts; her first husband, Sammie Nicholson Wilder; her sons, Sammie Wilder and Roy L. Wilder; and her daughter, Lisa Ann Wilder.
Survivors include her husband, William Myers of Excel; three daughters, Michele Wilder Graves and her husband, Tony, of Excel, Mary Wilder Burns and her husband, Vic, of Daphne, and Karen Williams and her husband, Cecil, of Uriah; stepdaughters, Renee Dougherty and her husband, Matt, of Oakman, Bonita Myers of Jasper, and Felicia Veal and her husband, Matthew, of Birmingham; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Frisco City, Ala.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at noon in the chapel at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home. Rev. Logan Ricketts officiated the service. Burial was in the Monroe Chapel Cemetery.
