Betty Lou Studdard Courington

June 20, 1929 December 25, 2017Betty Lou Studdard Courington, 88, formerly of Parrish, passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 25, 2017, at Cherry Hill Nursing Home in Hillview, where she had resided for the past 12 years.

She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Albert Wayne Courington. She is survived by her two cherished sons, David and Billy; and two daughters-in-law that she loved as her own, Susan and Mary Ann. She was the proud MaMa to Kim Kelsey (Paul), Josh Courington (Katie), Daniel Courington (Mandi), Jasmine Peeples (Michael) and Alex Courington (Alison). She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren whose very presence brought her great joy, Addison, Levi, Lila and Joshua Kelsey, Hannah, Jaiden, Jase and Eli Courington, Hallie Kate and Ford Courington, Jordyn, Alexa, Madison, Blaklee and Autumn Peeples. She is also survived by one dearly loved sister, Marie Short Saye; one nephew, Michael Short (Kathy); several cousins; and many friends she counted as family.

A faithful and dedicated member of the Parrish Church of Christ, Mrs. Courington served many years as an Elder’s wife and Sunday School teacher. As her health allowed, she enjoyed helping others and provided many meals for those sick and bereaved within the community and her beloved church family. She was a wonderful cook and her recipes have been shared and passed down to the next generation. Her home was a favorite stop on Halloween for all the children in the community as her popcorn balls were known to be the best in Parrish. She also found great joy in attending Parrish High School football games where she was an enthusiastic cheerleader. She loved deeply and her “I love you’s” and “Thank you’s” were spoken sincerely to her family and caregivers up until she was no longer able to communicate. Most importantly, she loved the Lord, His church, and God’s word. She was truly an example of a virtuous woman.

The family owes a debt of gratitude to the administration and staff of Cherry Hill Nursing Home and Dr. Rick Fennel. Their care, concern and genuine love for Mrs. Courington during the past 12 years was evident and so appreciated.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 1 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel. Burial will be at Odom Memorial Cemetery.
