Bevill State artists to be featured by WCAA

The Walker County Arts Alliance (WCAA) will begin their 2019 season by featuring artists from Bevill State Community College.

The first of four Tasting of the Arts events will be held next Tuesday, Jan. 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Warehouse 319 Annex on 19th Street West in downtown Jasper. The evening will feature art by students, faculty and staff of Bevill State's Fine Arts Association.

WCAA President Tana Collins said the college's auto body department on the Sumiton campus will have same unique artwork at the event as well.

"I'm really excited about this particular Tasting of the Arts, because I think this is going to give people in Walker County an opportunity to see some of the up-and-coming artists and get exposed to some things they haven't had an opportunity to see yet," Collins said.

Admission to the event Tuesday is $20 for WCAA members and $25 for future members. By calling (205) 221-1711 and registering as a WCAA member, people can receive a free ticket to this particular event.

Alcoholic drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be available, and food will be catered by Warehouse 319 1/2. Bevill State's Andrew Brasfield will play music for the evening.

Collins said some art may be for sale at the event.

The arts alliance has a busy itinerary for 2019.

The second Tasting of the Arts will be April 23, featuring Art in the Park alum Maurice Cook; the third will be Aug. 20, to highlight musicians prior to this year's Foothills Festival; and the Tasting of the Arts season will conclude Oct. 15, with a potential ghost tour.

Other events will include their dinner theater performance of "I Love Lucy" on Feb. 7, the Downtown Derby on May 4, Art in the Park on May 11, and a Mule Tour. Other events are scheduled as well.

A Facebook page for the Walker County Arts Alliance will detail the schedule of events this year as each occasion approaches.
