BSCC earns public relations awards

The public relations team of Bevill State Community College has brought home eight awards for their work to promote the college and educate the general public about the institution's many programs.

Awards were presented at the Alabama Community College System Public Relations Association (ACCSPRA) Conference in Orange Beach last week. Pyramid Awards from ACCSPRA recognize community, junior and technical college public relations employees in the Alabama Community College System.

According to a press release from Bevill State, the college received three first-place Pyramid awards for social media promotion on Instagram and Twitter and for radio advertising that featured the "Your Story Starts Here" campaign.

Bevill State also earned three Pyramid Awards of Merit (second place). The first was for the college's promotional video for career technical education by Andrew Brasfield, Bevill State's multimedia coordinator. The second Pyramid Award of Merit was for a news writing piece on Bevill State's partnership with Mercedes-Benz, written by BSCC Director of Public Relations Tana Collins-Allred.

The college's third Pyramid Award of Merit was for the Bevill State YouTube channel.

Two Pyramid Awards of Achievement (third place) were also presented to the college for news placement of the Bevill State and Mercedes-Benz partnership and for outdoor advertising that featured a truck wrap to promote Bevill State's truck driver training program.

"Bevill State Community College is such a vital asset to the area that it serves," Collins-Allred said. "It is important that all aspects of communication that represent the college highlight the value of the institution on many levels. Andrew (Brasfield), the multi-media coordinator for Bevill State, and I take our role very seriously. And, fortunately, we both love what we do. We were honored to receive these awards."

In a press release from Bevill State, president Dr. Kim Ennis said, “The ACCSPRA Pyramid Awards competition is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the marketing teams throughout the Alabama Community College System. Bevill State’s public relations department has traditionally done very well in the Pyramid Awards, and I know that our team will continue to strive for excellence in their representation of our college.

"Communications within our service area is so important for the success of the college and we are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals at Bevill State to help us achieve this for us."
