Carbon Hill’s Dutton signs with UNA

Posted

Alyssa Dutton made her presence known the moment she stepped on the volleyball court at Carbon Hill High School as a freshman.

Four years and 266 wins later, Dutton has turned that success into an opportunity at the Division-I level. Dutton signed with the University of North Alabama earlier this month, weeks after leading Carbon Hill to a runner up finish in Class 3A at the Elite Eight State Volleyball Tournament.

UNA’s athletics made the transition to Division-I this fall. The Lions compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lions didn’t have a player from the state on this year’s squad, that finished 4-21 under head coach Bob White.

Dutton had a stellar senior season for a Carbon Hill team that finished 65-7 under coach Saige Beaty, winning county, area and regional titles before placing second to Montgomery Academy in Birmingham.

Dutton led the team with 840 kills. She added 486 digs, 143 aces, 98 blocks and 40 assists.

In her Carbon Hill career, Dutton led the Bulldogs to a 266-38 record with three Elite Eight State Tournament appearances.

She closes her prep career with 2,318 kills, 1,286 digs, 564 aces, 550 blocks and 227 assists. Her 2,318 kills rank ninth on the AHSAA career kills list. She also ranks sixth all time in both blocks and aces.
