Church Happenings, Gospel Singings and Cemetery Meetings will be featured each Wednesday and Saturday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar at Events are listed free of charge. They are ran by calendar date and time as space allows, so there is no guarantee when or the number of days an event will run. Events are only accepted from local churches, faith-based ministries or organizations, and cemetery associations. The Church at Beech Grove at 347 Beech Grove Road in Townley will host its First Saturday Night Singing and Service today at 5 p.m., featuring congregational singing, special guest singers and refreshments following the service. Offering will be received to help with the upkeep of the church building. For more information, contact John Cooner at 275-7823.

Winston County Gospel Theater (formerly Looney’s Tavern) on Alabama Highway 278 near Houston, Alabama will host a gospel singing today at 6 p.m. featuring guest singers, Eagle’s Wings. Admission is free, but a love offering will be received.


Saragossa Baptist Church Mens Prayer Group meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

Townley First Baptist Church at 229 Alabama Avenue in Townley will host Super Sunday “The Decision” on Sunday, Feb. 5. Tailgate at 9:45 a.m. and Kickoff at 11 a.m., featuring an announcer, special music, drama team, commercials, and halftime show. Guest speakers will be John Cooner and Wayne Page. Hunters Chapel Holy Church of Christ on Hunters Chapel Road in Jasper will have a singing Sunday, Feb. 5, at 10:45 a.m. with guest singers, Gold City.

Herman Baptist Church will have a singing Sunday, Feb. 5, beginning at 11 a.m., with lunch at noon and singing in the afternoon. Guest singers will be the Barnett Family from Tennessee.

Burnwell Baptist Church on Sharon Boulevard in Dora will have its Founders Day Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 12, with special singing at 11 a.m. by Southern Image from Plantersville, Miss., lunch following worship service and more singing at 1 p.m.

Nauvoo United Methodist Church on 3rd Avenue in Nauvoo will host AA (Alcoholic Anonymous) and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings each Monday and Friday at 6 p.m. at the church.

Carbon Hill Methodist Church at 178 Northwest 4th Avenue will host Celebrate Recovery each Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Twelve Step Program each Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Awakening Life Church on Alabama Highway 257 in Jasper will hold a CelebrateLIFE recovery and restoration accountability and support group meeting each Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the church. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 801 The Trace in Jasper will host its 40th Annual Valentine’s Luncheon Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Tickets are $12 and include lunch, silent auction, and access to vendors. Tickets can be purchased at the door or from a St. Mary’s member. Proceeds will benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank, which serves the communities of Walker and Winston counties.


Edgil Grove Baptist Church on Alabama Highway 5 in Jasper will host a singing Saturday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. Guest singers will be the Page Trio and Barnett Family.


Saint John Baptist Church will celebrate its Church Anniversary Sunday, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. at the church. Pastor James Kelley and the Rising Star Baptist Church Dora will be the special guests for the occasion.

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 301 Shamrock Trail in Adamsville will have its 2017 Mardi Gras Party will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, after the 4 p.m. Mass. Rising Star Baptist Church Family in Dora will celebrate Pastor James Kelley’s 22nd Anniversary Sunday, March 12, at 3 p.m. at the church. Guest evangelist will be Bishop Theo Bailey and Christ Temple Church in Birmingham.


First Christian Church of Jasper will hold its annual Red Beans and Rice fundraiser on Saturday, March 25, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 400 West 18th Street in Jasper. Price per plates $10. Plates of red beans and rice, bread, salad, moon pie and “throws” will be available for pickup at the church. Proceeds will be used to help fund the church’s mission work.
