Church happenings


Church Happenings, Gospel Singings and Cemetery Meetings will be featured each Wednesday and Saturday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar at Events are listed free of charge. They are ran by calendar date and time as space allows, so there is no guarantee when or the number of days an event will run. Events are only accepted from local churches, faith-based ministries or organizations, and cemetery associations. Breast Cancer Support Group of Walker County announced Sunday, Oct. 16, will be “Worship In Pink” Sunday in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. All congregation members are being asked to wear pink in support of those who are fighting breast cancer and in honor of those who are survivors.


Maranatha Baptist Church on Josephine Street and Barker Street in west Jasper will be extending its soup kitchen to Wednesdays and Fridays. Beginning today, Oct. 5, the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen will be serving each Wednesday at 11 a.m., with the New Beginnings Church of Graysville hosting third Wednesday of each month. Matthews Ministry Soup Kitchen will also be using Maranatha’s facilities each Friday at 11 a.m. Door prizes will be given away at today’s event.


Living Light Church of God will host an indoor yard sale on Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7, from 8 until 5 p.m., each day, and Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 until 1 p.m., at the church. Proceeds will go toward the church’s mission trips.

River of Living Water United Methodist Ministries (Christ United Methodist Church) at 1401 Jones Dairy Road in Jasper will conduct a 12-step Celebrate Recovery program each Thursday at 7 p.m. A meal and fellowship will be provided at 6 p.m. For more information, call 205-221-3486.


Saint Cecilia Catholic Church located at 2159 Highway 195 North will have an indoor yard sale Saturday, Oct. 8 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the church.

Boldo Methodist Church on Alabama Highway 69 North (across from the Dollar General) in Jasper will have a free clothes closet giveaway on the second Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. until noon at the church.

Sumiton Church of God High Praise Senior Choir will host a fundraising Yard Sale Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the Sumiton Church of God Fellowship Hall.


Freedom Worship Center at 7800 Winston County Road 41 in Arley will have aspecial singing worship service on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 10 a.m., featuring Big Mo of Big Mo Ministries.

Freedom Worship located behind P.J.’s on Pineywoods-Sipsey Road will have Pastor Appreciation Day on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 10:30 a.m., with lunch following the service. Guest singers will be Latter Rain.

Samaria Baptist Church at 70 East Lake Road in Jasper will begin its “Study of Revelations” with Dr. Carl Gallops on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m., and Monday, Oct. 10, through Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m., each night.


Carbon Hill Churches partnering with Hydrate Campus Tours to host Hopes on Hold, Christa Jordan, Awaken, Reddy, and DPB and Crew in concert on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m., at Carbon Hill High School. Free event and free giveaways. For more information, visit


Blooming Grove Baptist Church on Blooming Grove Road in Curry will have its Judgement House “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave” on Wednesday, Oct. 12 and 19, from 6 until 9 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 16, from 5 until 9 p.m. This is a walking tour and some scenes may not be suitable for small children. First United Methodist Church will host Siran Stacy, a former University of Alabama football player who lost his wife and four children in a car accident, on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 a.m. Refreshments will follow.


Jasper AL Aglow Lighthouse will meet Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Moore’s Landing on Alabama Highway 78 in Jasper. Dutch treat dinner begins at 5 p.m., with meeting at 6 p.m. Guest speaker will be Attorney Hazina Dorius, who will be speaking on helping young girls succeed through mentoring relationships. Mt. Vernon Baptist Church will host its Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be a Halloween Costume Contest with prizes awarded to the best costumes, a Trunk or Treat, and plenty of food and games.

New Oak Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Nauvoo located at 530 New Oak Grove Road in Nauvoo will be hosting Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a cake walk, games, hot dogs and lots of candy. For more information, please contact Lindsay Kelly at 205-300-6237.


Curry Church of God will host its Family and Friends Day on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 10:30 a.m., with guest singers, Purpose. Gifts and door prizes, and a meal will be served following the service.


Bethel Baptist Church at 7000 Bethel Road in Dora will have its annual Harvest Festival and Trunk or Treat on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6 until 8 p.m. There will be hayrides, food, games, prizes, puppets, candy, and great Christian fellowship.
