COLD SPRINGS — Cold Springs jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and knocked off Meek 34-20 at Eagle Stadium on Thursday night.

Cold Springs tops Meek 34-20 in season opener

COLD SPRINGS — Cold Springs jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and knocked off Meek 34-20 at Eagle Stadium on Thursday night.

With the win, Cold Springs matched its win total from 2017.

Cold Springs came out swinging in the first quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run by running back Ayden Alexander, who rushed for 94 yards. Cold Springs followed up with another touchdown with only 55 seconds left in the first quarter, pushing the lead to 14-0.

In the second quarter, Cold Springs scored another touchdown with a 60-yard pass by quarterback Brodi Williams to receiver Roberto Ayala. Not long after that, Cold Springs scored again with a short run by Alexander and another extra point, leaving the Eagles with a 28-0 halftime lead.

Early in the third quarter, Meek scored a touchdown with a run by Gabe Jones, who rushed for 130 yards, and completed a two point conversion. With 52 seconds left in the quarter the Tigers scored again with a short pass, cutting the gap to 28-14.

In the fourth quarter, Cold Springs answered back with short touchdown run by Calvin McNabb, who rushed for 102 yards. Meek scored again with 4:58 left in the game but it was not enough to pull out the victory.

Meek (0-1) hosts Winston County next Friday.
