CURRY — Curry’s early season struggles seem to be over.

The Yellow Jackets, who started the season 1-5, have won three of their last four games, including an impressive 72-68 victory over Oakman on Tuesday night at Curry High School.

CURRY — Curry’s early season struggles seem to be over.

The Yellow Jackets, who started the season 1-5, have won three of their last four games, including an impressive 72-68 victory over Oakman on Tuesday night at Curry High School.

Curry also handed undefeated Meek its first loss of the season on Monday.

Against Oakman, Curry built a double-digit fourth-quarter lead only to see Oakman get back within three points before the Yellow Jackets finally sealed the win at the free throw line.

Four players scored in double figures for the Yellow Jackets. Jakob Hicks had a double-double for Curry, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Reid Bailey added 13 points and 10 rebounds, John Moon had 14 points and Luke Smith added 13.

Curry (4-7) led 23-21 after a hectic first quarter. Oakman’s Skylar Hice made three 3-pointers and had 13 points in the opening period.

The Jackets maintained their lead through the second quarter, thanks to six points from Jakob Hicks. Curry took a 38-37 lead into the half. Six Curry players scored points in the third quarter as the Jackets took a 54-51 lead into the final period.

Oakman stayed close in the fourth quarter thanks to the shooting of Peyton Hill, who knocked down two 3-pointers and had eight points. Christian Hubbard had five points in the quarter.

For Oakman, Hice had a game-high 19 points, Christian Hubbard had 14 points and nine rebounds, Peyton Hill had 11 points and Dawson Crowell put in eight.

Oakman (3-3) hosts Gordo today while Curry plays in the Sumiton Christian Holiday Tournament starting on Dec. 28

Heather Thompson and Chante Williams combined for 20 points in the first quarter alone as Oakman earned a 46-27 road win over Curry on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats took control of the game in the first quarter, scoring 22 points.

Thompson had 11 points in the period while Williams knocked down three 3-pointers for nine points as Oakman took a 22-8 lead into the second quarter.

Oakman led 34-15 at the half and 40-21 going into the final quarter.

Both Thompson and Williams finished with 14 points for Oakman and Alaisha Hubbard put in seven. Morgan Davidson led Curry with nine points and Keana Pearson put in eight.

The Yellow Jackets (4-9) have lost six straight games.

Oakman, which has won four straight games, hosts Gordo today.

Curry plays in the Berry Christmas Invitational on Thursday.

Sumiton Christian 64, Oak Grove 63

Sumiton Christian opened the Oak Grove Pre-Christmas Tournament with a 64-63 win over the host team on Tuesday night.

The Eagles had four players score in double figures. Both Isaiah Wright and Judson Laird scored 16 points, Ethan Morgan added 11 and Blaine Sharpston put in 10.

Sumiton Christian (7-3) trailed 17-9 after the first quarter, but rallied for a 32-29 halftime lead. The Eagles trailed 46-45 going into the final quarter.

Sumiton plays Heritage Christian — formerly Shades Mountain Christian — at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Heritage Christian advanced with a 60-49 win over Meek on Tuesday.
