Dora rallies past Jasper

Dora’s JaCory Woods sparked a fourth-quarter run that turned a six-point deficit into a 45-37 victory over Jasper at Carl Cannon Coliseum on Friday.

The Vikings scored just two points in the final 7:18 as Dora charged from behind with a 16-2 run to pick up the area win and even the season series with Jasper. The Vikings won the first meeting 69-52 at Dora.

“I’m proud of the way the guys responded to the halftime instructions from the coaches,” Dora coach Michael Bridges said. “We did a much better job defensively this time. This was a good win for our guys.”

Dora (7-9 overall, 2-2 in Class 5A, Area 11) trailed 31-29 after three quarters and Jasper pushed its lead to six points at 35-29 after baskets from Cole Bonner and John David Harrell early in the fourth quarter.

From there it was all Dora.

Jamaal Harris started the Bulldogs’ run with a basket at the 5:30 mark. Woods scored the next six points, converting a three-point play for a 36-35 Dora lead with 3:17 remaining. After Harrell’s driving layup tied the game at 37-37 with 2:51 left, Averiun Berry followed with a 3-pointer at the 2:11 mark to give Dora the lead for good at 40-37.

Down the stretch, Woods added a basket and Brent Geeter made three free throws. The Bulldogs outscored Jasper 16-6 in the final quarter.

Both teams struggled to find offense throughout the first half with Jasper holding a 16-15 halftime lead. The Vikings outscored Dora 15-14 in the third quarter. Harrell made a pair of free throws with five seconds left in the period for the 31-29 lead going into the fourth.

Woods finished with 14 points, eight in the final quarter, and both Geeter and Berry had nine points for Dora.

For Jasper (6-10, 2-3), Harrell had 13 points and both Ryan Childers and Cole Bonner had six.
