OAKMAN — A fire that critically injured one woman in Oakman early Wednesday morning is under investigation.

The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate the fire, which destroyed a home on Oakman Parrish Road/Market Street as well as vehicles and a camper.

Walker County Sheriff Jim Underwood said Wednesday afternoon that a person of interest in the investigation is in custody on outstanding warrants for unrelated charges.

The home was fully engulfed when firefighters were called to the scene at 3:56 a.m., according to Oakman Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shane Calloway.

“It was fully involved, the house, three vehicles and a camper trailer,” Calloway said.

Four people were in the home at the time of the house fire, and one woman who escaped the fire, Linda Williams, is reportedly in critical condition at UAB Hospital in Birmingham.

Calloway said it took until approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to fully extinguish the fire. Around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, the fire reignited, but was put out again by Oakman firefighters.

Oakman, Parrish and McCollum-Midway fire departments responded.
