Fires on Myrtle Drive under investigation; arson suspected

Posted

Two early Friday morning house fires only a block away from each other are under investigation as possible arson.

Jasper Fire Chief David Clark informed members of the Jasper City Council about the fires on Myrtle Drive during a work session Friday afternoon.

“There were two separate structure fires in the same area, and it really stretched our guys,” Clark said. “We are investigating them as arson.”

The fires were at 1005 and 1013 Myrtle Drive. Clark said the call came in just before 1 a.m. Friday.

“JPD (Jasper Police Department) were the first ones on the scene, and they reported to us that it was two structures,” Clark said. “We had 11 guys on the scene, and it took a lot to fight the two at the same time.”

Clark thanked Jasper police for their assistance and praised the work of his fire fighters.

“JPD did a great job helping us, keeping the road closed, and our guys did a great job,” he said.

Clark told council members that both of the homes were rental properties and both were unoccupied at the time of the fires.
