Harbor Freight Tools will be opening its doors in Jasper to create roughly 40 jobs in the coming months.

Eric Smidt, CEO and president of Harbor Freight Tools, confirmed the store’s opening in an emailed statement to the Eagle on Monday.

The tool retailer will be located at Walston Bridge Road along Highway 78 in Jasper, and will create 35 to 40 new jobs.

“We're thrilled to be opening our 13th Harbor Freight Tools store in Alabama and very pleased by the warm welcome we've received in Jasper" Smidt said. "At Harbor Freight, we're all about delivering high quality tools at ridiculously low prices. We do it by manufacturing our tools at the same factories as the expensive brands, but we cut out the middle man and pass the savings on to our customers. We've also invested millions of dollars to build and operate our own state-of-the-art quality test labs to ensure that we're constantly driving quality at the lowest possible price.”

By using the existing steel framework of the old Honda dealership at the Harbor Freight site in Jasper, the retailer is making rapid progress on the building’s construction, despite a tentative opening date of April 2017.

The land preparation beside Harbor Freight Tools is for Jasper’s first ALDI grocery store. An opening date for ALDI has not been announced.

Harbor Freight Tools sells a variety of products in addition to a large selection of tools, including automotive and motorcycle products, engines and motors, welding supplies, lawn and garden supplies and other needs. Based in Calabasas, Calif., Harbor Freight has more than 675 stores nationwide and sells more than 7,000 items.
