Harold Loyd Downey, 86, of Empire, Alabama, was born May 4, 1932 in Nauvoo, Alabama and died on August 29, 2018.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vola Downey; brother, William Downey; and sister, Juanita Rosenburg.
He is survived by his daughter, Yolanda Eisenstein and her husband, Abram Eisenstein; nephew, Cliff Downey, his wife, DeAnna Elaine Downey, and their son, Houston Barrett Downey; and niece, Arvie Ann Cunningham.
Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War where he was a radar operator. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when outside working around the house or simply sitting in his swing. He rescued and cared for abandoned animals throughout his life, and his dogs Dixie, Hershey, and Lucy, and cat Romeo, gave him much comfort and love during the last years of his life.
He loved Alabama and, as he wished, will be laid to rest at Edgil Grove Cemetery in a graveside service at Edgil Grove Cemetery at 604 Edgil Grove Road in Jasper, Alabama at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018.
