HOLT — The Oakman Wildcats shutout the Holt Ironmen 27-0 Friday night at Woody Clements Stadium in Holt to begin Class 3A Region 4 play.

Christian Hubbard dominated the game for the Wildcats rushing 25 times for 196 yards along with three touchdowns. Oakman gained 314 yards of offense in the win. The Oakman defense held the Ironmen to 81 yards of total offense, allowing only five first downs compared to 20 produced by the Wildcats.

Holt (1-2, 0-1) held the ball on offense for less than two minutes in the first quarter due to an Oakman trick play on a kickoff and the Wildcats’ relentless rushing attack. Oakman scored on its second possession on a 15-yard scamper by quarterback AJ Odom. The extra point was blocked and the Wildcats led 6-0 heading into the second quarter.

Hubbard scored on two consecutive drives in the second quarter and ran in a try for two to lead the Wildcats to a 21-0 halftime lead. Hubbard scored first on a power run from the Ironmen nine yard line and then from 30 yards out. The Oakman defense allowed Holt to snap the ball in Wildcat territory only once in the first half.

The Ironmen threatened to score in the third quarter by driving down to the Oakman 12 yard line, but an interception by Denzel Chatman killed the opportunity. Hubbard scored on the proceeding drive with a10-yard run, extending the lead to 27-0 following a missed extra point.

Odom was 5 of 13 for 30 yards passing the ball and ran 13 times for 17 yards and a score. Denzel Chatman led the Oakman receivers with three catches for 18 yards.

Next week, Oakman hosts the Gordo Greenwave in another Class 3A Region 4 matchup.
