Jasper High School changes student pickup procedure

A new afternoon pick up procedure for students at Jasper High School will go into effect today.

JHS announced the new plan Tuesday, along with an informative video on their Facebook page to detail the changes.

The new plan will be as follows:

•Car riders in seventh and eighth-grade will be picked up at the lunchroom entrance, where they have been picked up all year; however, parents will need to enter campus from behind Jasper High at Indiana Avenue or Viking Drive, near the Daily Mountain Eagle. After pick up, parents will then exit campus at the main entrance onto Viking Drive.

•Parents of car riders in ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th-grade will need to enter campus at the main entrance along Viking Drive. Parents will need to immediately turn right and keep going toward the right side of the school. Students will be picked up near the theatre and auxiliary gym entrance to the right side of the school, and cars will exit toward Indiana Avenue or the Viking Drive exit toward the Daily Mountain Eagle.

Parents picking up a seventh or eighth grader and ninth through 12th grader will pick up their children in the ninth through 12th car lane.

Students who ride home with an older sibling will wait in the lunchroom until high school students are released and then exit the cafeteria side of the building.

The process for dropping off students in the morning will remain the same.

Jasper High School Principal Bart Reeves said the new procedure is similar to the original traffic plan they wanted to use in August, but road construction prevented them from implementing it.

“Now, parents will have two locations to pick up students, which we hope will reduce the amount of time in traffic,” Reeves said. “If parents were to choose the wrong lane, they will simply be redirected around the building to the appropriate location to pick up their child. One thing to keep in mind, if you enter from the front, you will exit the back. If you enter from the back, you exit out to the front.”
