Jasper man dies in crash

A Jasper man died in a two-vehicle accident Friday, according to Alabama State Troopers.

According to a trooper spokesman, Tyler Reese Hicks, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The accident happened at 7:35 p.m. on Alabama Highway 195 near Bennett Road, about five miles north of Jasper. Hicks, who was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, collided with a 1999 Acura sedan driven by John Matthew Long, 40, of Jasper.

According to the spokesman, “At the time of the crash, Hicks was refusing to stop for law enforcement.”

Long was taken to Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.

City council to meet Tuesday

The Jasper City Council will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the council chambers on the second floor at City Hall in downtown Jasper.
