Kids calendar entry deadline extended

The Daily Mountain Eagle has extended its deadline for entries in its Cutest Kids of Walker County calendar contest to Wednesday, Sept. 21.

All children entered will be featured for the first time in the Daily Mountain Eagle and on its Facebook page on Friday, Sept. 23, at which time voting will begin for the Cutest Kids of Walker County. Children up to 4 years old, living in Walker County, are eligible to enter the contest. The entry fee is $25.

Entry forms will be inside the Daily Mountain Eagle throughout the next week. The form is inside this edition on B8. Entry forms, along with a recent (within the last 90 days) photograph of the child, may be dropped off at the Daily Mountain Eagle office at 1301 Viking Drive in Jasper or emailed to donna.hicks@ mountaineagle.com.

Voting will continue through Friday, Oct. 21. Each vote is 50 cents. Twenty percent of the voting revenue and calendar sales will be given to Backyard Blessings, a Walker County-based nonprofit organization that provides food for needy children in the area.

At the end of the voting period, the child with the most votes will receive a free photo shoot and be featured on the cover and a month of his/her choice in the Daily Mountain Eagle’s Cutest Kids 2017 Calendar, which will be printed and available for purchase by late November. The 11 children who receive the next highest votes will also receive a free photo shoot and be featured in one month in the calendar. All children entered in the contest will be featured in some fashion in the calendar project.

The Daily Mountain Eagle is also sponsoring a food drive for Backyard Blessings during the voting period of Sept. 23-Oct. 21. Food items may be dropped off at the Eagle office. Backyard Blessings asks specifically for individually-wrapped, non-perishable food items that can be prepared by a child.
