Man arrested after running over stepfather

A Jasper man was arrested Saturday by members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office after running over his stepfather and fleeing the scene.

Bryant Wayne Williams Jr., 27, of Jasper, is charged with first degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, attempting to elude police and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in the Walker County Jail with no bond.

Williams was taken into custody near 1910 Tommy Robinson Road in Jasper. Deputies were called to the residence Saturday for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they found 70-year-old Jeffrey Strickland on the ground in the driveway in serious condition.

Family members and witnesses on the scene stated that he had been run over by a vehicle driven by Williams, who had fled the scene.

Deputies then initiated a manhunt. Williams was eventually taken into custody near the residence where the event occurred.

During the investigation, it was determined that Williams also has pending cases in Fairhope, where he has been charged with reckless endangerment, child endangerment, theft of property fourth degree and criminal mischief third degree after he allegedly removed the lug nuts from the vehicle owned by his mother-in-law.

Williams has also been served with a protection from abuse order in Baldwin County, where his wife and two children are listed as the victims.

In a separate incident, Walker County deputies arrested Daniel Chandler, 29, of Parrish, on Tuesday at the request of the sheriff’s office in Grundy County, Tennessee.

Chandler was indicted in May 2016 in the death of his wife, Samantha Chandler. He is charged with first degree murder.

Chandler was taken into custody at a local business in Jasper and was returned to Grundy County, Tennessee.
