Marlon M. Ledbetter


Dec. 14, 1945 - Sept. 22, 2017 Marlon M. Ledbetter, 71, of Destin, Fla., formerly of Sumiton, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, surrounded by loved ones.

The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Horizon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Sumiton Church of God. The Rev. Joseph Rogers, the Rev. Lane Sargent and the Rev. Victor Massey will officiate. Burial will take place at Walker Memory Gardens in Jasper.

Ledbetter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was employed for 42 and a half years with L&N/CSX Railroad and was the proud owner for 32 years of Ledbetter Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. He graduated from Dora High School and Walker State Technical College. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ernest and Vera Hill Ledbetter; brothers, J.C. Ledbetter and Jerry G. Ledbetter; sisters, Dovie Ledbetter Smith, Alta Ledbetter Varner, Avis Ledbetter Scisson and Mary Ledbetter Mandell.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Leist Ledbetter of Destin, Fla.; daughters, Leslie C. Ledbetter of Destin, Fla., and Lisa Ledbetter Rhea (Neale) of Hoover; grandsons, Brantley Jacob Smith of Destin, Fla., and Neale Edward Rhea III (Trace) of Hoover; brother, Marvin O. Ledbetter (Peggy) of Concord, Va.; sister, Audrey Ledbetter McCormack (Paul); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
