Meek hammers overmatched Gaylesville

ARLEY — The Meek Tigers hosted the Gaylesville Trojans at Meek Field on Friday night, earning a 40-8 victory.

Most of the first quarter was back-and-forth until the Tigers broke through the endzone with Gabe Jones’ 14-yard rushing touchdown.

The momentum would carry over to the second quarter with Tigers playing stifling defense and forcing turnovers and the offense would capitalize by getting into the endzone three more times giving the Tigers a 28-0 lead for the first half.

The Tigers got off to a fast start to open the third quarter when John Mark Abercrombie returned the kickoff for a 70-yard touchdown, pretty much sealing the fate of any hopes of a Trojan comeback. The Tigers defense put together a great showing by forcing six turnovers (four fumble recoveries and two interceptions). Leading the way for Tigers defense was Collin Brock with 10 tackles, Haydon Twilley (two tackles and two fumble recoveries), Dillion Baker (two interceptions) and Gabe Jones (four tackles, a fumble recovery), Baker and Jones also shined on the offensive side of the ball as well. Baker had one touchdown through the air and one from the ground; Jones had eight carries for 116 yards an two touchdowns. Destin Morris was also a big contributor with four carries for 76 yards and two scores.

The Tigers got back on track, while improving their record to 2-3. They will hope the win carries over next week when they play host to the Vina Red Devils (1-4).
