Mobile grocery store adds Sipsey to its roster

Posted

The Corner Market, a mobile grocery store, will now be accepting SNAP/EBT benefits and will begin stopping in Sipsey this Wednesday.

Kathryn Strickland, executive director of the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, said they just received approval to accept SNAP/EBT last week.

“We’re super excited because we know this will give more families options to access healthy foods using their EBT/SNAP benefits,” she said. “In many cases, the closest store to use these benefits may be a gas station that has highly processed foods at high prices. So we’re very excited that the grocery store can offer healthy options and accept SNAP benefits.”

This Wednesday, the Corner Market, a 24-foot trailer designed as a one-aisle grocery store, will start the day in Nauvoo from 9 to 10:30 a.m., before making its first visit to Sipsey from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The mobile store will be set up in the Sipsey City Hall parking lot, located at 3835 Sipsey Road.

Strickland said that Sipsey won’t be the last Walker County city added to their list of stops. They’re hoping to be able to add a third city in October, although Strickland said that’s currently in the planning phase and they’re still trying to decide on a city.

“We’re so appreciative of how welcoming all the residents have been and supportive,” she said, adding that the Corner Market has gone over “very well” in Walker County.
